As a London sports massage therapist, you may meet people who get their first sports massage and don’t understand why it hurts. This article discusses why sports massages hurt so much and answer a few other questions that new and old clients may have.
So why does a sports massage hurt so much? Think of a sports massage as a workout. If a client has never had one, their muscles will be moved in ways they aren’t used to. This could cause pain like DOMS. Soreness may also be caused by more blood going to the muscles and the release of waste products.
Why does it hurt after getting a sports massage?
People often say that they feel sore after getting a sports massage. DMS, or delayed onset muscle soreness, is produced by working muscles that your clients may not normally use. As the body heals, this pain is caused by swelling and soft tissue injury.
But customers’ pain after a sports massage may go away over time. The same thing happens with sports massage as it does with exercise when the intensity of DOMS goes down.
What makes symptoms worse after getting a massage?
Increased blood flow to the muscles and the discharge of toxins may also contribute to post-massage soreness.
Can you get hurt by a sports massage?
Even though sports and deep tissue massage rarely hurt anyone, some people are more likely to get hurt. Because of this, the following groups should talk to a doctor before getting a sports massage, and they shouldn’t get one until they get the all-clear:
- People are prone to blood clots, or have you had them in the past.
- People who are more likely to get hurt or break a bone
- People suffering from nerve damage
- Older people
- People who have had surgery or chemotherapy recently.
- People with wounds or skin problems
- Whoever has a hernia
How can a sports massage help you feel better?
Even though customers can’t do much to avoid pain during a sports massage, there are a few things you can suggest to help with the pain. The pain, however, should be mild and go away in a few days.
- Avoid alcohol, sweets, and drinks with caffeine, and drink a lot of water.
- Stretch
- The use of heat
- Use of ice to treat
- Therapies that are put on the skin, such as a muscle massage,
- Rest
What things shouldn’t you do after getting a sports massage?
People shouldn’t do a few things after getting a sports massage to get the most out of it and feel less pain.
Try not to eat a big meal:
After an appointment, clients may feel hungry, but it’s best if they don’t eat anything heavy or unhealthy because it will make them feel tired. Instead, tell clients to make a small snack to eat after their session to stop feeling hungry immediately. You could also suggest they eat a light meal for supper that day.
Don’t drink alcohol, drinks with sugar, or coffee:
Sports Massage helps the body get rid of waste. So, you should tell your clients not to drink anything after their session with a lot of sugar, caffeine, or alcohol. Instead, you could serve water and herbal teas.
Don’t Do Anything Too Tiresome:
Several experts say that after getting our London sports massage, the person should relax and not do any hard work for 12 to 24 hours. This can help you feel as relaxed as you did after your sports massage and keep you from getting hurt.
Why can sports massage sometimes be bad?
Since sports massage is a type of deep tissue massage, a lot of pressure is put on the muscles to treat them. This stress might not be fun. If your muscles are tight, your sports massage therapist’s hands (or elbows!) won’t be able to stretch or move them as easily, and this will make the session more uncomfortable. Massages, stretching, and foam rolling regularly will help you loosen up your muscles and feel better. A massage will cause less pain if you are not too tight before it.
After getting a sports massage, your muscles may still hurt for a day. The next day, the muscles massaged during the massage may feel sore, like they do after a hard workout. When you get a good sports massage, your muscles are pushed in ways they aren’t used to. This is like working out for your body. You might feel sore the next day because your muscles are getting more blood, and toxins are leaving your body.
How long does it take for a sports massage to help the body heal?
After our London sports massage, clients can almost immediately return to their normal lives, but it is recommended that they rest for the rest of the day. Depending on the client and how often they get sports massages, stiffness or soreness can last up to two days.
